can I give xanax to my dog to sedate him for travel??

Question:

Answers:
I'm sure that dogs can have xanax as well but not the same dose that you would take. I would not give your dog xanax without taling to your vet first because you could overdose him.

Other Answers:
Don't ever give medications to your pet without asking your veterinarian if it alright and what dose. Human meds do not always affect animals the same!

Call your vet, if you have been in within a year, they will give you a proper sedative; if you have not been in within the year, they may require an exam (in some states, you cannot legally dispense meds without an exam within a year.)

I wouldn't sedate any animal for a trip a little Childrens benadryl will make them sleep though but watch doses for the size of dog I have a rott shepherd mix and I gave him a small dose of it when he was injured bad so he'd sleep and not feel the pain so bad in his injured leggs until I could get him to the vet.
ABSOLOUTLY!! My vet and dr. say so I have to give it to mine at fireworks season.which where I live is 2 months not 2 days
Xanax is a benzodiazapine type drug so it is in the same class as Valium but it is truly and anxiolytic, and does not work well as a sedative. If you dog is anxious during travel you should talk to your veterinarian, he may be able to help you with the dosing of xanax. Usually it would be safe to give a 40 pound healthy dog at least 0.25 mg of xanax up to three time a day. There is a wide dosing range so please talk to your vet first!! If your dog needs sedation, talk to your vet about other meds such as acepromazine ( as long as your dog hasn't had seizures.
use kids gravol
I did give my hyper dog xanax on a road trip recently..it calmed him a tiny bit, he fought it though. That's how stubborn he is. I would ask your vet what would work the best.
Yes you can & it works well, but of course you should talk to a vet first.
Not sure about xanax, but I give mine dramamine. I have also heard that benadryl is a good sedative for a dog.
No. You can ask your vet who can provide the correct meds and dosage for your dog.
No - ask your vet for a medication suitable for him.
Ask your vet for acepromazine. It works great. My dog gets car sick and this stops it and makes her alot more comfortable and sleepy.
